The new prince of Saint-Tropez nightlife - Philippe Shangti
The artist, who imagined the designs of the two most famous restaurants located on the port – LE QUAI and L’OPERA – celebrates this summer ten years of love story with Saint-Tropez. After a skyrocketing success, today he has become an international artist well-known in the US, Asia and elsewhere…
Almost 35 years-old and an incredible success story. At the early 2000’s, the young artist coming from Toulouse was introduced by Joseph Geenen (owner of Bar Joseph, Grand Joseph, Tour Joseph and L’Escale Joseph) who assigned him the artistic management of his new restaurant, Le Quai. For this occasion, Philippe realized “No Cocaine Here”, his first photo canvas prints, a provocative hint in the superficial world. His provocative and glamour world attracted collectors and celebrities on vacation in Saint- Tropez. Philippe made his name – Shangti – inspired by martial arts, one of his hobbies.
In 2014, the businessman David Brémond gave him full scope to create the concept of a new restaurant located on the most beautiful part of the port. And so the exclusive hotspot of the French Riviera, the restaurant, lounge, cabaret and “gallery” club L’Opéra was born. After “No Prostitution Here”, Philippe, now involved in the most prestigious contemporary art events (Art Basel, Venice Biennale…) and represented by the great international art galleries, is more than ever influenced by the excesses of the modern world and profit.
No Pollution here
This year, he designed “No Pollution Here”, a “trash-sublimated” collection of canvas, tags, shows and performances on issues such as the destruction of planet Earth by humankind… To discover now at the Opéra… Philippe Shangti is often abroad but, with a little luck, you may meet him someday in Saint-Tropez, his favourite place.
The contemporary photographer and artist, has chosen this year to use his art for the animal cause, an international combat that is close to his heart.
In the elegant deco of the Opera, his favourite place to exhibit in Saint-Tropez, he unveils his latest oversized works that mix provocation, glam and beauty. For his fans around the world, he has launched an online boutique where one can buy his most recent limited collection and products such as clothing, telephone cases, posters and other fun accessories.
The futur is now
The artist has been chosen to represent Andorra, where he resides, at the Biennale of Venice from May 11th to November 14th 2019. Another strong message from his project "The future is now", where he denounces the destructive impact of man on society, the environment and the future of our planet.
